There’s no shortage of internet bloviators in the wargaming community – we’re getting ready to launch S15 of our podcast this Fall so we definitely know! But one way to assess what you’re watching / reading / listening to is factual accuracy. If the folks spouting off can’t be bothered to get basic open-record verifiable factual information correct, then why are you worried about whatever else they might want to blather on about.

This thread asking about where the industry coverage for hobby wargaming is
A question that was sparked by my wandering the floor of GenCon; who are the journalists covering board games? There are so many publishers and plenty of reviews but I don’t know any journalists (beyond @boardgamewire.bsky.social) who do actual on-the-ground reporting.
It seems like it is mostly driven by influencers and reviewers. Which is good to an extent, but it is a different kind of information when it comes to how the industry works and changes. It doesn’t say a ton about how things change or controversies or whatnot.

- This week, Scott Thorne talked about starter sets and entry points for games — keeping them in stock, and relative price points — which brings up the question of “what are the ‘starter games’ for wargaming and what should they be?”
- BoardGameWire reports on GenCon numbers – up to 72k – even among economic instability for boardgaming
- Rascal has a great interview with Peter Adkinson
- ICv2 has a column from Rob Salkowitz about SDCC that might have some lessons for the game convention industry, too

- There’s been a super-quick fix/update to a couple of WDS’s Panzer Campaigns games after a recent AAR found some problems in the rail transport capacity, and it’s pretty wild how fast they pushed this fix out
Last year, this was my favorite part of Gen Con and this year it got bigger and better in every way, transforming what was a black box production to a massive piece of theater.
