Armchair Dragoons PAO, 25 October 2026
Bringing a close to our 2026 Fall Assembly coverage, here’s a roundup of many of the games that were played, including thoughts from some of the GMs leading them. As always, we played more games than just what’s here, but this is a solid sampling of all the gaming we crammed into 2-1/2 days.
Air & Armor

Six players joined me to play the AirLand Battle scenario. Great fun! (Bruce Maxwell)
SPI’s Würzburg
Anaconda: Gray Skies, Blue Water
Five players in two teams fought out the battle of Albemarle Sound, May 5, 1864. The battle involved the Confederate ironclad CSS Albemarle and her two tenders trying to break through a half dozen Union steamers. As a neutral observer, I enjoyed the frustration felt by Union captains as their long range fire kept ricocheting off the Albemarle’s iron casemate. But once the ranges began to close, the ironclad began suffering more substantial damage. A couple of attempts to ram Albemarle failed, but she suffered sufficient damage (as well as the loss of one of her tenders) to allow a victory for the Union Navy. This was the first time that I played the design with other players. I got a lot of great feedback on the design and discovered some issues that need to be tightened up. A great event! (Mike Nagel)
Raider Drop Zone & Cracking the Hammer Bastion
The American Revolution (Worthington Games) and The Road to Independence (Blue Panther games)
I submitted these two games late in the process but was happy that I still was able to get a couple of volunteers to play both of them. As it is the 250th Anniversary of the United States, I thought it apropos that we have a couple of games on the American Revolution. (Aaron Danis)
From Rappahannock to Bull Run
MASS Impact
I hosted a couple of new players to this skirmish level game that should be available from Relative Range (via Blue Panther) soon. The scenario involved a full platoon of armored soldiers trying to capture a weakly defended building on the far side of the map. Blue succeeded in their mission, but were very nearly foiled by the delayed arrival of Red reinforcements. The players had a good time with this “push pieces and blow crap up” style of game. Wings of War/ Wings of Glory
Included both WW1 and WW2 games on separate days
Combat Commander
2 games played. The scenario was #10 Commando School. One game the Germans won, and the other game played was a much closer game but the Soviets held out against the German Attack. (Nathan Wagner)
Brief Border Wars 2
Grand Tactical Series Beach Landing Scenario
GMT The Napolonic Wars
This was a teaching game with 3 new players. France dominated the entire game with excellent cards and unbelievable dice. The game lasted 2 turns (1805-1807). Fun was had by all. (Nathan Wagner)
Sails of Glory
Eagles in the Sky
Off the Line: The Winter War
(Somehow we didn’t get any photos of this one!)
We played one of the upcoming Winter War scenarios pitting the Soviets against the Finns in 1939. I’m happy with how the new special rules for the Finns worked out. Hopefully I can get the rest of the scenarios tested by the end of the year for an early 2027 release of Off the Line Volume II! (Mike Nagel)
Musket and Pike Battle Series – Naseby
Battles of the American Revolution: Rhode Island
King of the Tabletop
Dusting off an old Dragon Magazine favorite from the 80s for the first time in over 35 years, and a good time was had by all, or at least most (Brant Guillory)
Red Baron’s War—WWI Air combat a remake of Richthofen’s War
There were 2 sessions of this game, one each on Friday and Saturday
BCS- Danger Forward
Some poor table management resulted in the 2 sessions of this game taking place on separate tables, which was not ideal for the GM.
Up Front
There was a pickup game that broke out on Sunday morning that was not on the official schedule
NATO: The Cold War Goes Hot
After the Air & Armor game was cleared, the players rolled out this one for light filler game
Kriegsspiel
There’s a full report on the Kriegsspiel at the Fall Assembly over here
Raffle Table
It wasn’t a full table, but it was a robust table with a variety of nice prizes for our attendees
The Swap Table
To be renamed the “pay it forward” table, full of freebies that our attendees are willing to share with other wargamers for free.
