We’re up to 4 years of the Fall Assembly, and we’re still bringing in wargamers from all over the map, with this year’s attendees coming in from Virginia and Tennessee, plus Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, South Carolina, and Washington DC, and a Canadian whose plane tickets were gacked up by a hurricane.
We returned to our self-contained building at the VFW in Cary, NC with new table layout, some new signage, and our first ever raffle to go along with the swap table.

Friday’s games included Rhode Island (BoAR), a full-division Raider Drop Zone game, Red Baron’s War, Off the Line: The Winter War, Worthington’s American Revolution, a pickup game of Air & Armor, King of the Tabletop, 2 simultaneous Combat Commander games, and a 5-player Sails of Glory slugfest, plus the Kriegsspiel.

Kriegsspiel
Paul, our Kriegsspiel GM extraordinaire1, wrangled a group of 10 through a multi-table double-blind Kriegsspiel scenario from the Austro-Prussian War using a modified version of his Battle Decisions: Kriegsspiel set (blocks replaced the counters). As usual, discussions about the game continued well into the evening, even after the game wrapped up around 2pm.
King of the Tabletop
From Dragon Magazine #77, Tom Wham’s King of the Tabletop was a nostalgia trip back to school lunchrooms of the 80s and very swingy buckets-o’-dice multi-player hilarity of days gone by. As Mike Nagel put it, “I haven’t played this in 40 years!” and then he promptly attacked his neighbor.
Thursday
While the convention officially starts on Friday, there’s a social gathering on Thursday evening at a local restaurant that usually brings in 8-12 folks or so. And the usual pilgrimage to Gamer’s Armory included a reminder that ASLOK is also being held this week.
We’ll have more coverage with our wrapup of the convention, along with commentary from the participants, once the games are over.
