2026 Fall Assembly ~ Event Preview

Armchair Dragoons PAO, 6 September 2026

The Fall Assembly is rapidly approaching, and we’ve got a look at all the games that are currently on the schedule for the weekend.  Of course, there are also spaces for some open gaming, if you bring along your own game just to see who is interested.

While our focus is—as always!—on the games, there’s more to the Fall Assembly than just slinging dice

  • The always-popular swap table: bring something / take something (both, either, or neither!)
  • Light munchies on Saturday
  • The bar & grill next door for an affordable adult beverage with your games
  • NEW THIS YEAR! A door-prize raffle for our attendees
  • Easy access to The Gamer’s Armory, one of the best wargame stores in the country

Early bird badges sold out the first day (of course!) but there are plenty of general attendee badges still available.
And remember that all of our Regimental Captains through our Patreon get a free badge to the events we run, including this one.

Among the designers joining us this year?  Mike Nagel, Bruce Maxwell, and Keith Tracton, and maybe some others?  You’ll have to show up and see!

Here are all the events on the weekend schedule, with the start times & durations, along with their official description and some commentary from us.

Air & Armor: V Corps Learn To Play

Starts 10-Saturday at 09:00 and 11-Sunday at 09:00 and runs for 360

The game’s designer will run multiple games for new players to teach them how to play the game experientially.

Bruce is back to teach his Cold-War-Goes-Hot system with the second game in the excellent A&A system

Anaconda: Gray Skies, Blue Water

Starts 10-Saturday at 14:00 and runs for 240

Anaconda covers tactical naval combat during the American Civil War. The game is adjacent to my Flying Colors series of Age of Sail games, but with more steam, bigger guns, and lots of armor. The game is under design so this session helps kick the tires.

Designer Mike Nagel is here to show off some naval combat action.  ACW naval combat isn’t often seen on the tabletop, so here’s your opportunity

Battles of the American Revolution: Rhode Island

Starts 9-Friday at 12:00 and runs for 240

Although the tactical situation is somewhat straightforward; Americans retreating and British pursuing primarily up two main roads, the nuanced play and game texture is like that found in all the games of the BoAR series.

Going back to this acclaimed system for another battle during to the American War of Independence

BCS- Danger Forward

Starts 10-Saturday at 09:00 and runs for 180

Danger Forward is a complete game covering the Battle of Gela that took place between 10-12 July, 1943 in Sicily.  I plan to run Scenario 5.2 Cent Beach.

The “intro” game for MMP’s Battalion Combat Series, with a chance to take the system for a spin before diving in head-first for future games

Brief Border Wars 2

Starts 11-Sunday at 12:00 and runs for 120

Small wars, quick games, unique conflicts! This card-driven set of battles between WW1 & 2 keeps players on their toes as you explore some of history’s most forgotten fights.

Brian Train’s system for small conflicts goes back to the pre-WW2 era for a bunch of battles you’ve never heard of.  Quick-playing with one system for 4 different games

This is the latest article in our series of articles covering 2026 Fall Assembly and you can find a carousel linking all of them across the bottom

Combat Commander

Starts 9-Friday at 19:00 and runs for 240

You think you’ve got what it takes to be a leader of men? GMT’s Combat Commander Europe will give you the opportunity to display your leadership qualities. Whether you have never played before, haven’t played in a while, or a huge fan — come join us for the one of the best tactical WW2 games.

Another system you can learn once and play a bunch, as the Combat Commander system has expanded to a variety of theaters and settings.  We’ll pick a scenario based on the players’ interests and run from there.

Cracking the Hammer Bastion

Starts 10-Saturday at 09:00 and 11-Sunday at 09:00 and runs for 240

next game in the series started with Raider Drop Zone, for sci-fi tactical battles

A sci-fi battle system with a dual-layer combat mechanic that takes into account both how well a unit fights, and how much they can ‘overpower’ their enemy, as taught by the designer

Die Atom Bombe (by Against the Odds)

Starts 11-Sunday at 12:00 and runs for 240

A deck building game where 3-5 players try to be the first German Scientist to build an Atom Bomb, all before the Russian Army takes Berlin. You will have to deal with Allied bombing raids as well as political interference from on high. Cooperation and backstabbing can both occur.

You always wanted to blow up the world, didn’t you?  You know you did.  Now you get the chance to do it while there’s a very real external clock ticking down.

Eagles in the Sky

Starts 10-Saturday at 10:00 and runs for 180

Eagles in the Sky is a 2-player card-based game on plane to plane warfare during the last year and a half of the First World War. Players each command a “flight” of 1 to 6 aircraft during any of several types of missions, including patrols, photo recon and even balloon busting.

Soaring through the air and blowing stuff up – c’mon, who doesn’t want to do that?!

From Rappahannock to Bull Run – (rolling game part 1)

Starts 10-Saturday at 13:00 and runs for 240

From Stonewall Jackson’s Way II, Scenario 5 uses the Basic Game Rules. In 1862 the Lee’s Confederates attempt to get around (or through) Pope’s bigger Army of Virginia. While destroying as many Railroad Stations as they can, they hope to all end the game concentrated around one target behind Pope.

A land campaign in the American Civil War in Virginia.  While this overall scenario will be played in 2 parts, players do NOT need to play in both sessions.  If you just want a taste of the ACW battlefield, you can play in a single session, and if you want the whole campaign, then join both.

From Rappahannock to Bull Run – (rolling game part 2)

Starts 10-Saturday at 19:00 and runs for 240

GCACW rules v1.4 from Stonewall Jackson’s Way II – This session will continue the game started earlier, either with the same or new Generals, if some leave the field. Lee’s Confederates attempt to destroy RR Stations and end up concentrated behind the Union Army.

The second session of our full campaign will pick up where the first one wraps up.  Again, players don’t need to sign up for both, and can choose to take the reins for just a single session if they want to drop in to the ACW for just one game.

Grand Tactical Series Beach Landing Scenario

Starts 10-Saturday at 09:00 and runs for 240

At least 4 games in MMP’s GTS use (or will use) a subsystem for landing units on beaches. We will use the Sword Beach scenario from Greatest Day: Sword, Juno, and Gold to teach players this subsystem. Players will need to be familiar with the basics of the GTS as this session will not cover those.

This session is focused just on amphibious landings, and familiarity with the underlying GTS rules is needed for this game, as they will not be taught.

King of the Tabletop

Starts 9-Friday at 19:00 and runs for 120

A classic — and very early — tabletop 4X game of fantasy conquest, construction, and general hilarity

Multi-player fantasy conquest with a heaping helping of humor as players claim lands, recruit armies, chase treasures, and build castles to claim tabletop supremacy.

Kriegsspiel Scenario

Starts 9-Friday at 12:00 and runs for 120

In this scenario, 4-10 players will experience the fog of war as they make decisions that will make the difference between success, or failure. An umpired experience, player do not need to learn rules. A double blind game

The ORIGINAL tabletop wargaming, with an experienced Kriegsspiel umpire who will lead the players through a true double-blind wargaming experience that you can’t really pull together with your regular Saturday gaming group.

MASS Impact

Starts 10-Saturday at 20:00 and runs for 180

M.A.S.S IMPACT is a tactical level game of man-to-man combat in a dystopian future. Players manage a squad or full platoon of heavily armed and armored soldiers as they navigate through blasted terrain to accomplish their mission.

Another designer-taught game as we go into a sci-fi future of heavy weaponry and wild, wide-ranging battles

Musket and Pike Battle Series – Naseby

Starts 11-Sunday at 09:00 and runs for 240

Learn how to play GMT’s Musket and Pike Battle Series using the Naseby battle from the M&P Dual Pack

Are you just Musket-curious?  Wondering how Pike-y you might be?  Here’s a chance to find out with one of the better intro scenarios from a box that’s got a lot of them.

Off the Line: The Winter War

Starts 9-Friday at 15:00 and 11-Sunday at 10:00 and runs for 180

Off the Line is a skirmish level WW2 combat game where each unit represents an individual soldier. This event presents the second volume in the Off the Line series, The Winter War, pitting the Soviets against the Finns.

Man-to-man ww2 action!  Line up your troops and marshall them through your firefights, accounting for soldier strengths, weapon systems, and terrain considerations

Raider Drop Zone (Full division!)

Starts 9-Friday at 14:00 and runs for 300

full Divisional drop and all optional rules; rules will be taught

The original  “shock & awe” sci-fi game that uses the same rules as Cracking the Hammer Bastion but with a much larger and more free-flowing battle

Red Baron’s War–WWI Air combat a remake of Richthofen’s War

Starts 9-Friday at 14:00 and runs for 240

I will be demoing FE-8s vs Jasta 11 the day Richthofen had his fuel tanks holed and was forced to land.

Updating the original Ricky’s War, this WW1 dogfight tackles a historical scenario.

Red Baron’s War–WWI Air combat a remake of Richthofen’s War

Starts 10-Saturday at 16:00 and runs for 240

Benbow saves, Hawker from MvR

Another historical scenario with the same updated Ricky’s War rules

Sails of Glory

Starts 9-Friday at 20:00 and runs for 180

Miniature Napoleonic naval combat with movement cards and damage chits.

Sails & smoke!  Grapeshot & grapples!  Cross the T!  Strike the colors!  Blow the crap out of each other with Ares’ Games excellent models

SPI’s Wurzburg

Starts 10-Saturday at 13:00 and runs for 180

Cold War goes hot in the 1970s with this game from the Modern Battles I quad, as the US defends the areas around Wurzburg, Germany from the invading red horde

Another SPI classic makes an appearance at The Fall Assembly as the Red Horde comes rolling through Bavaria and runs smack into the American division stationed around Wurzburg, West Germany

The Napoleonic Wars by GMT

Starts 10-Saturday at 19:00 and runs for 240

The Napoleonic Wars, 1805 – 1815, brings you a fast-paced, tension-filled, card-driven wargame using a point-to-point movement system that pushes the envelope in a new direction for this pivotal period of history.

More players, more fun!  Grand land campaigns and fierce naval warfare with a side dose of diplomacy and the mandatory inter-personal shenanigans

Wings of War/ Wings of Glory: WWI

Starts 11-Sunday at 10:00 and runs for 120

Miniature aerial combat with movement and damage cards.

Ares’ Games aircraft models come to life in a Great War dogfight

Wings of War/ Wings of Glory: WWII

Starts 10-Saturday at 10:00 and runs for 120
