For over a decade now, The Gamer’s Armory has hosted an annual board game marathon to benefit Gamers for Cures and the Turner Syndrome Society of the Carolinas and TSSUS.

The marathon runs from 8am Saturday to 2am Sunday. For several years, it was a true 24-hour board game marathon; seems like those 330am Ticket to Ride games got a little punchy. This year, our drop-in was a little earlier on Saturday and the place was still filling up.
Of course the store is still open for business, but the game space is filled up with the marathoners, immediately identifiable by the orange-shirt uniforms. Even the staff are into the swing of things.
There’s an extensive game library already in the store, and the gamers bring a few tubs (each) with them to add to the available fun. The play-to-win table adds to the fun from there, as well. Some folks organize games ahead of time while others just jump into whatever game is about to start when they’re ready to play. There are also raffles and player sign-ups for various prize packs.
The real highlight for most gamers – whether they’re attending the marathon or not – is the Raffle Wall™ full of donated games & prizes that are available for anyone to purchase tickets at $1 each. Donations come in from across the gaming hobby – MMP & GMT Games from the wargaming side of things, but also Queen Games, Devir, Garphill Games, Slugfest Games, and more.
Stick your name and number on the ticket and Sunday afternoon they pull the winners. You’d be amazed at the prizes, and just how many excellent games the hobby donates to the cause.
If you’re in the neighborhood in early November, the Gamers for Cures Marathon is a great way to play a bunch of games and help out a good cause in the process.
