The SDHISTCON organization has started the process for their annual awards and are accepting submissions through their online form here. The intent for the game nominations is to have them played/taught at SDHISTCON in November.

- Near as we can tell from their sometimes-convoluted newsletters, Avalanche Press released Second World War at Sea: South Pacific and Jutland: Atlantic Breakout in the past week
- Tarqui. An honorable Peace? is new from SNAFU and covers a 19th century battle in Colombia/Ecuador
- BCS Inflection Point was starting to ship to pre-orders, but then stopped because of a map issue, and we’ll let you know when it re-starts
- Avalon Digital released their adaptation of Carl Paradis’ No Retreat! The Russian Front into early access
- Dark City Games released No God Above in their Legends of the Ancient World line
- System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster brings back a classic to Steam
- Bloody Lane: A Solitaire Wargame is a new book available on Amazon that covers the Battle of Antietam

- There’s a Richard Sharpe figure on pre-order from Wargames Atlantic that’ll ship in September
- Grail Games’ “Pixel Series” aren’t very wargamey, but they’re adorable; they are tabletop card games with graphics that evoke mid-90s mobile games like the Gameboy and there’s a series of them on Kickstarter now in different languages
- Canadians in the Winter? Seems a natural fit for the Bolt Action! line that Warlord has on pre-order

News note: our site seems to have stabilized after the firewall shenanigans earlier in June. We still have some firewall settings to fix, but it’s mostly set. However, we’ve got a significant forum update coming in the next couple of weeks, so be on the lookout for that, too.

Tabletop games are not video games, Hasbro…
…and no one is winning this round, not even you.
WoTC insisted on treating D&D like a video game. They wanted to create closed-off ecosystems where they can directly monetise players. This is very reminiscent to the monetisation model for Games as a Service (GaaS), where the video game itself is it’s own environment where the developer or publisher can push microtransactions using proprietary currency that can affect the player’s experience.

Various news & notes from the business end of the gaming world
- BoardGameWire reports on Maestro Media cutting a distro deal with Asmodee, but does not seem to be getting assimilated just yet
- Some follow up from last week’s reporting about DTRPG de-listing Rebel Scum from their store
- Rascal reports that Evil Hat and the license holder for Tomb Raider have gone their separate ways around the RPG that was in the works, but now Evil Hat is looking to repurpose a lot of that work toward something new
- WDS continue pushing out the 4.05.3 engine updates to their Panzer Campaigns titles and the fact that this has been going on for over a month should tell you how deep the well is on these games

Today, out of morbid curiosity, I picked up a copy of The Laundry by Cubicle 7. Despite it using the rule system I designed, and copy pasting thousands of words I wrote, I am not included anywhere in the credits. I also outlined the whole book and designed the character sheet.Oh well. #ttrpg

- Fort Circle owner Kevin Bertram explained how the tariffs, among other things, have changed his production plans and what’s next
- Gamegenic prices are going up 15%
- Atomic Mass Games prices are going up 15%
- Navigating supply chains in uncertain conditions
- Prices on toys & games are rising faster than at any time on record
- This guy was just showing off his game at Origins this year, and he’s not sure his company can survive if the tariffs stay this high
- Learning Resources and hand2mind both won their lawsuits over tariffs with the administration, but in the meantime the damage might’ve been too much

Guy picks locks on YouTube. Company claims he tampered with their locks before picking them. Guy shows the whole thing from scratch, end-to-end, with a fresh lock straight out of the mail. Might need to jump to IG to watch the full video, though
