Summer Sales & Summit Awards ~ #TuesdayNewsday

Welcome back to #TuesdayNewsday, where wargaming takes center stage. This week, we’re covering everything from the week’s new releases to pros using wargames to shape the future of warfare. And plenty in between!

5News 1 top

It’s Summer Sale Season!

We’ll recap most of these in the links below, too, but there’s a bunch of sales that just launched this week, too.

5News 2 Below 1

The SDHISTCON organization has started the process for their annual awards and are accepting submissions through their online form here.  The intent for the game nominations is to have them played/taught at SDHISTCON in November.

There are 2 awards and you can read more about each here

MMP are big supporters of the WWII Foundation, who have a kick-ass YouTube channel.  The foundation are holding their fund-raiser and MMP have been highlighting it on their social channels.  You can join in helping with a donation over at the foundation’s website.

Per the foundation’s site:

Your donations to the World War II Foundation help us to fund out films, museum, education initiatives, the overall mission and other goals to honor the legacy of the veterans and survivors of one of history’s most crucial periods.

5News 3 Incoming

Hitting the shelves (and webstores) near you now!

5News 4 launch

Time to get those orders in now and then either (a) complain that it’s 2 years late, and/or (b) be surprised when it gets here sooner than you thought

5News 5 falling

Looking for a deal? Getting more bang for your buck?

5News 6 regiment

It’s been a busy week for the regiment; here’s what you might’ve missed!

News note: our site seems to have stabilized after the firewall shenanigans earlier in June.  We still have some firewall settings to fix, but it’s mostly set.  However, we’ve got a significant forum update coming in the next couple of weeks, so be on the lookout for that, too.

The Best Thing We Saw On Another Site This Week Was

Tabletop games are not video games, Hasbro…
…and no one is winning this round, not even you.

WoTC insisted on treating D&D like a video game. They wanted to create closed-off ecosystems where they can directly monetise players. This is very reminiscent to the monetisation model for Games as a Service (GaaS), where the video game itself is it’s own environment where the developer or publisher can push microtransactions using proprietary currency that can affect the player’s experience.

This week’s best written coverage from the wargaming world

The best videos this week from our wargaming friends

Ardwulf’s counter clipping stream talked about Vietnam War games, and didn’t include the review we published that day!

5News 10 industry

Various news & notes from the business end of the gaming world

Is this bad?  This seems bad (note, someone at the company finally fixed this)

Today, out of morbid curiosity, I picked up a copy of The Laundry by Cubicle 7. Despite it using the rule system I designed, and copy pasting thousands of words I wrote, I am not included anywhere in the credits. I also outlined the whole book and designed the character sheet.Oh well. #ttrpg

5News 11 Pros

Focusing on the practitioner world ~ don’t forget about our dedicated area in our forums for the wargame professionals!

At the Italian Naval Staff College, CDR Ferruccio Ferreli is leading the development of an operational level version of my "Littoral Commander" system focused on the Mediterranean. It is awesome to see professional militaries adapting my game design for their needs. 🎲 💥

5News 12 different

Something neat from outside the wargaming world we thought was worth sharing

Guy picks locks on YouTube.  Company claims he tampered with their locks before picking them.  Guy shows the whole thing from scratch, end-to-end, with a fresh lock straight out of the mail.  Might need to jump to IG to watch the full video, though
