The Triangle Simulation Society’s annual Fall convention, Southern Front, was held this past weekend in Morrisville, NC1.
We’ve hit Southern Front several times (2022, 2023, 2025), with a short look around the convention and a bunch of photos. Unfortunately, the tyranny of the schedule cut into the number of hours we had this year, so it was a shorter-than-usual visit.
We still managed to get a decent number of photos, but please don’t ask about details of the games in progress or waiting to set up, as we don’t have too many. We did see games covering East Front WW2, medieval Japan, river gunboats in the ACW, and Swedes vs French in the gunpowder era, among others.
As usual, there’s a handful of sales tables around the edge of the room. This year, there was a shortage of dedicated ‘company’ booths that you’d expect to see at Historicon or Origins; they were largely replaced by the kind of “garage sale” style tables that’ve always co-existed at Southern Front.
Southern Front holds a raffle to help raise money for the club, and this year we also donated 2 passes to our upcoming Fall Assembly.
If you’re a minis wargamer, Southern Front is a great game-focused weekend with a wide variety of fun games hitting the table, without the overwhelming crowds and overhead of something like Historicon or Adepticon, and if you’re in driving distance, it might we worth adding to your agenda for 2027.
