There’s even room for more GMs to add a couple of Quad Fest events – just get in touch with us about scheduling so we don’t overlap each other!

I am looking forward to meeting some of you next week at Buckeye Game Fest. If any War Room folks are interested in a Teach & Play of Sekigahara: The Unification of Japan, A Gest of Robin Hood, or Raider Drop Zone, please message me. I will be happy to facilitate a game for you and your friends (and/or play with you).

From left to right: Marc, Ken, and Scott. Not pictured: Minh (me). Marc did an excellent teach of Avalon Hill's Rise and Decline of the Third Reich. We also walked through the initial German offensive against Poland. We will be starting our 4-player game tomorrow.

From left to right: Jeff (Britain & USA), Zeke (Germany & Japan), and Keith (Russia & Russia). A mega game combining GMT's Triumph & Tragedy and Conquest & Consequence. They are using the game rules, but Keith corresponded with the designer for the unofficially official way to play the games together.

From left to right: Mike and Jeff (Soviet Union) versus Dave and Allen (Germany). MMP's Operational Combat Series (OCS) game Smolensk: Barbarossa Derailed.

Three mega games on the tables, a couple being set up, and a few smaller pick-up games. Not a bad Monday for BGF 2025!

DAY 2

From left to right: Dave and John playing GMT's Imperial Struggle.

From left to right: John and Ron playing MMP's Advanced Squad Leader scenario Last Stand On An-San.

From left to right: Doug, Ron, William/Bill, Neil, and Ken. Not pictured: Minh (me). Bill facilitated The Dietz Foundation's Littoral Commander scenario Black Flags Over Singapore of the Taal's Fury campaign. Neil, Ken, and I guided the U.S. Marine Corps to a rough start with a lot of collateral civilian casualties. The People’s Liberation Army Navy Marine Corps, led by Doug and Ron, deftly eradicated the pirates maneuvered by Bill. However, the USMC found and destroyed two narco submarines at the very end to squeak out a marginal victory.

Day 3

From left to right: Matt, John, Alexander, Grant, and Neil playing Game Salute's Black Orchestra.

Hannah and Matt playing GMT's Twilight Struggle.

So I totally failed at taking pictures today. The place was really hopping compared to the previous two days, and there was a TON of activity. But between playing games, running a teach and play of GMT's A Gest of Robin Hood, and facilitating three other pickup games, I got too distracted to grab more photos. Buckeye Game Fest has quickly become my favorite convention.

Day 4

Dave and Neil playing WBS Games'  Warfare: Modern Tactical Combat scenario Caged Dogs, Operation Night Tide.

Joe and Matt.

Andrew, Bill, Thomas, and Steve playing PHALANX's Successors.

Bill and Marc participating in Quad Fest! SPI's Blue & Gray II: Four Civil War Battles scenario Shiloh.

Ted and Charlie playing MMP's GCACW On to Richmond II: The Union Strikes South.

Lovely, Matt, and Derek playing John Lambshead's One-hour Skirmish Wargames. The Zulu are attacking a British fort.

A bunch of VIPs playing Pungo Games' Divine Right.

Bill and Bill playing Flying Pig Games' A Most Fearful Sacrifice: The Three Days of Gettysburg.

James and Marc participating in Quad Fest! SPI's Napoleon's Last Battles scenario Quattre Bras. The Allies and French kept pushing each other out of Quattre Bras, but two very unfortunate exchanges for the French meant the Allies were victorious at the end of the day.

I don’t know what intrigues me most - the huge board games with all the reference sheets and counters round them or the tiny ones

Buckeye Game Fest 2025

Quote
Our annual pilgrimage to Buckeye Game Fest was spiced up a bit this year with the inclusion of QUAD FEST!
As we’d previously noted, this year the Dragoons teamed up with a couple of fans & friends and built a small program of wargames around the classic SPI quadrigames.  By the time the dust cleared, we actually had seven games, so from Wednesday night through Saturday morning, we brought back old-school quick-learning hex-&-counter classic wargaming to the War Room.
