I recently bought this - opened it up, had a quick look and then boxed it away until I was ready to give it a go.

I got it out the other day and saw that the manual is missing 2 pages at the beginning (3-6). I reached out on BGG and Sean said to contact LnL and he offered to send me the two pages until it was resolved.

I opened a ticket and the best they offered was to provide me a PDF.

Now - I'm not massively put out by this because I won't be selling the game...I enjoy it too much. However, rightly or wrongly, I am still pissed that I don't have a proper manual to go with my game. I was hoping they would offer me a replacement manual.

They apparently got in touch with Second Chance Games and they were informed they didn't have any copies spare - even though the game is not marked as out of stock on SCG website. So I don't know why SCG cannot send me a manual - prehaps LnL don't feel it's worth cracking a perfectly good box open for someone to receive a proper manual from it...perhaps SCG were not going to be reimbursed for the "raided" game - no idea.

Functionally - it doesn't affect me - but I didn't pay £70 for an incomplete game and I am disappointed with LnL's response.

No, there are standards, and LnL to my mind are not playing fair. If they are not willing to reimburse SCG for cracking open a copy, then I can understand why SCG are reluctant to do so.

From a consumer point of view, I would maintain that LnL have failed to meet customer expectations, and the onus should be on them to provide a replacement for what is, in effect, a faulty product.

Yeah - I am annoyed about their response...

But on the other hand - I don't "need" to have a full manual. They will send me a PDF and I'll print the two pages out and slot them in. That would certainly annoy me if I thought there was a possibility of me selling the game - but there isn't.

So on the one hand I'm pissed at not receiving the product I paid £70 for - but on the other, what I have and with the offer, is fully functional - so I kind of feel like I don';t have a right to be pissed off about it.

There are many places that can print nice hardcopies of PDFs. At minimum they should have offered that as a choice for you. With all of the negative attention they've had recently I would think they would be going out of their way to make things right.

Well - I wrote this to them - because it has taken somewhat of a shine off my purchase.

Good morning.

I have received the PDF and of course I will not share it.

However - I am somewhat unimpressed that I do not have the game I bought. I paid £70 and I have a defective product. I hate to make a big deal of this because it's only 2 pages, but I had hoped I would have the manual replaced. I shouldn't have to go to the time and expense of sourcing a printer to print the product I should've received from your company.

I understand these things happen - and I'm not annoyed/angry/upset that it happened. Not at all. There are so many steps to producing these products that I'm constantly amazed when I receive a board game and nothing is wrong with it.

I do however believe I should have the product I bought and as that is not the case - and is not being offered - I am annoyed/angry/upset at that.

I have checked Second Chance Games website and they are still showing Winter Victory as in stock. But it's not Second Chance Games fault I have a defective product. I understand they were who you would want to send a manual out due to cost - but if they can't, is there really no way of receiving a printed, complete manual from your company?

I think you misunderstood me.  The PDF was so you could use your game NOW.  The games SGC has are their paid-for copies.  We will start selling the game in the next two weeks, and SGC or LnLP will send you a complete manual.

Oh good god yeah. All they told me in the original was that SCG didn't have any stock and did I want them to send me a PDF. Even when they sent the PDF, they didn't offer me a manual or ask me for my contact/delivery details.

I thought the same. I re-read the communications and there was no mention - not even a hint - that they would be replacing the manual.

But - I'm happy I am getting my proper manual  :groovy:
