Well this one flew completely under my radar (I see so few games cover this period/conflict, which is why it caught my interest):

I also had no idea that SGS was Philippe Thibaut's company.  Last I knew, he'd left AGEOD, but that was pretty much it.  I vaguely remember him making a statement about intending to make more games (come what may), but he seemed to disappear into the ether after that.  Glad to see he resurfaced.

I love all the subject matter they cover with their titles, but to be honest the actual gameplay has never clicked with me after several attempts, I suspect this will be the same for me.

This alone makes it worth keeping an eye on this one!  :bigthumb:

Holy mother of God. I still have Civ V loaded on my pc just to play that Imjin War scenario. Does anyone own this SGS game yet?

On SGS' own website, it says they're planning on a May release.

I completely understand the loin-moistening, Gus.  8)

Agreed!  Though I'm discovering that this is far from their first game.

Looking on both Steam and their own website, it appears SGS has somehow managed to release over 20 games in the last 4 years already.  (The majority of them even have "Positive" or "Mostly Positive" ratings.)  :o  Even if Thibaut & co. are essentially just making new art for each title, I'm having a hard time imagining how they're maintaining that rate of production.

They started with the war across the worlds game engine, which is used for all these titles they rapidly release, all have the same basic feel, changing largely the content.  I have tried many of them and wasn’t for me, hard to explain as the game engine just doesn’t resonate with me, just feels clunky and dry to me even though looks pretty.  Also, does seem like they continue to pop out new releases quickly, giving the impression support and focus moves on.  Have even seen posts from the developer where that is purposeful because they need new sales to survive.  It will be interesting to see what you all think, but in places I have seen them discussed, seems like a decent portion says the same.

Not sure if they still do it, but if you used to buy from their site directly, you got a steam key right  away that gave you access to current version as developed, plus a discount. I did this many times. I do see this for sale on their site.

Although most have positive reviews, just make sure to look how many reviews were even submitted, plus browse through the forums. They do go on sale often after release as well.

Duly noted.  Thanks, GR

Another question, if you're able to answer:  How do their games compare/contrast to AGEOD's titles?  I'm guessing there are at least some similarities.

Actually, I don't think I ever got the feel the two engines were alike, except with larger battles, they both felt slow to me:)  Not even sure if Phillipe created the War Against the World engine, or just enhanced it with the SGS gamest  SGS Games is part of a group of games that are under the Avalon Digital umbrella, which also includes other board game type ports.  SGS games have "cards" that are used where Ageod didn't, plus I felt that Ageod was deeper and more detailed.  Personally the Ageod games resonated with me more but its been a long time since I played them so could be just bad memory.

You might want to check out the original War Against World as it is the base game engine, although enhanced in SGS games.  Pretty cheap stuff.  Or you might want to find one of their older titles that are cheap (couple are under $10) and give it a try so you can see how they work.  Generally speaking, you play one of these games and they are all roughly the same but different maps/scenarios:)  I am certainly not trying to dissuade anyone from being excited or even liking the games, just sharing what I have seen and also heard others say, quite frankly I am disappointed that I don't like them much and their game distribution model as they truly are cool topics.

Armchair Dragoons Previews Imjin War by SGS

Again, SGS take their patented card-based style and apply it here to a conflict that can be very complex. I am very much looking forward to Imjin War’s full release in the spring of 2025.

Thanks for sharing, I am curious how it actually plays.  All their games have interesting subject matter and have good graphics, the actual gameplay is what has left me cold.  Can’t even put my own finger on it as they have felt cookie cutter, at times hard to figure out, some games slow, and just didn’t seem fun for some reason.  And as soon as they release, they will be on to their next game:)

War across the worlds had dlc that partially represented this time period, this game is based on that engine.

Hope I am wrong on this one and everyone enjoys it, they have great subject matter, just wish they would click with me. But definitely looking forward to actual gameplay feedback.  Thanks again for sharing.
