Solo dev and not steam - looks interesting - love the combat - big ass chunky capital ships and little fighters

Steam page is finally up, and a new game trailer is out:

Sadly, I may to have give this one a miss, as space games with physics-based combat make me queasy.   Still, I genuinely wish the developer success, and I will be keeping an eye on it.

Wha? Seriously? I don’t think you actually fly the ships I think you can just zoom in and watch them do their thing

Had forgotten this -  excellent

Yep, I'm well aware.  Unfortunately, and for whatever reason(s), even just watching spaceships engage in Newtonian-style combat has always made me feel rather ill -- it's like the visual equivalent of nails on a chalkboard.  :-\

Like Beyond Astra, Ephemeris' developer has launched a crowdfunding campaign, though he's gone the IndieGogo route:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ephemeris-4x-space-strategy-with-true-3d-combat#/

Unfortunately, his campaign hasn't gone nearly so well, for reasons I can only guess at.  Not sure if it's because of the higher amount he's trying to raise, or the fact that certain planned features are "locked" behind stretch goals (starbases, terraforming, etc.), or something else.  The developer has said that all the things listed as stretch goals are planned to be added eventually, but a successful crowdfunding campaign would allow him to bring them forward sooner, into the game's Early Access period.

Dev posted a bit more of a detailed look at the game's combat system today:

I like what I see so far, but that Newtonian-style ship motion still makes me queasy; it's especially bad with the smaller ships.  I suppose watching the battles while zoomed further out might help, but that sort of defeats the purpose.  :(

A closer look at squadrons, formations, and engagement settings:

I will say this appears to be well thought-out.  The developer has clearly put some time & effort into it.

The developer talks about his struggles -- both personal and professional -- in getting Ephemeris off the ground:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3179370/Ephemeris/

Short version:  Dev suffered repeated setbacks the last couple years, capped by a personal tragedy (his father's death).  Towards the end of the video, however, he announces that he's (at last!) been fully funded, and that development on the game can now proceed much more quickly.
