It's heartening to see the support these guys are getting, but as the club secretary pointed out, money doesn't replace the hundreds (if not thousands) of hours put into these models & layouts over the years.  I really feel for them.

It is indeed. Although its a rather strange choice for a new build since only 6 of the 2-8-2 class were originally built. They were intended to handle heavy express trains
 on the route between Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Eventually, they were rebuilt as 4-6-2 Pacifics

Maybe so. It would certainly qualify as being one of the largest loco's than on UK rails.

I'd like to take a long train trip some day. I'd ridden to Edinburgh for a day a few years back but not sure that counts.

That's only about 30 miles. The most scenic route, and one they run a lot of steam hauled charter trains on, is the Settle & Carlisle route.

I skimmed through that video, will have to watch it later. That does look like impressive landscape. I thought between Glasgow and Edinburgh was damned pretty to be honest, but would love to have taken the train into north Scotland. Maybe next time.

Yes, they do run a lot of steam hauled specials up to the north of Scotland. I'd love to do that but it is quite expensive.

The wife and I rode the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad in Bryson City, N.C. last June. It was great and the scenery was fantastic. Especially with a nice Bourbon & Sprite to sip along the way.  :bigthumb:
