Impressive write-up Martok. I bought this a few days ago. Between my own impressions and your own I am hoping Bellfortis can be a game I sit down with to chill and have a beer.

I do most definitely agree that the English is not perfect. While annoying, I'm hoping it gets better as the game is worked on.

Thanks guys, and you're welcome.  Honestly, I hadn't meant to write quite that much, but apparently I had more to say about the game than I realized.

I do want to emphasize that I feel Bellfortis is a pretty good game, even in its current state; rereading my above post, I think my criticisms overshadow this point somewhat.  Granted, it's not going to be for everyone, obviously, but it's definitely going to appeal to some.  For folks who enjoy the Crusader Kings series or either of the Medieval Total War games, but don't have the time/patience to really sit down and play them, then Bellfortisis very likely going to hit that 'sweet spot" they didn't know they were looking for.

Thanks, Gus.  I really look forward to hearing your thoughts as well (when you're ready).  Given the developer has said there are already fairly major differences between the demo version and the game's current iteration, I imagine your experience will be notably different from mine -- hopefully for the better.  :)

I think your comment about Bellfortis "being a game to sit down with to chill and have a beer" (to misquote you slightly) is spot-on, by the way.  That's very clearly what the developer is aiming for, and so far I'd say they're succeeding.  Making a "light" grand-strategy that keeps at least a modicum of depth & complexity is an incredibly difficult balance, but I believe they just might pull it off.

There is potential here for me to sink 100s of hours in if the developer pulled it off.

Relatedly, I started to tutorial campaign of Yield, and while is appears even more simplistic in its presentation I was impressed at how deep its game mechanics go.

Both games seem to have that certain balance to keep players coming back. Finally some competition for TW.
