^Fantastic, thanks Martok.

Hard to believe that more than two decades later I am going for the XL mod once again.

Testament to how much I loved this game. Now to pray that it all works on my rig...

You're welcome, Gus!  Fingers crossed the game runs for you.

I find it somewhat funny you say "once again", because MTW -- and later on, the XL Mod alongside it -- has been constantly* installed on my computer for the past two decades.  :hehe:  For me, it's one of those "foundational" games that never leaves my hard drive...and never will, so long as I have a machine that can run it.

*(The one significant exception was a two-year gap when I had a PC that couldn't run my original copy of the game, and before I discovered MTW Gold Edition was available on Steam.)

^Attila has become that game for me. But I always have at least one TW loaded up on my machine. I played a few hours of the original Shogun a few months ago and still loved it. Ran smooth as buttah. Hoping for the same here.

Downloaded it and it works fine :) My God, the audio and music were so good in this game.

Now to download the XL mod...

The art style alone is worth a bask in its glory.

The only problem I had with MTW1 was the terrain could be crazy sometimes.  I distinctly remember having to try to defeat an enemy that was located on a steep mountside and my units could not physically get to them.

Huzzah!!  Glad it's working for you, Gus!  (Though I suspected you weren't going to have any problems when you mentioned you'd been able to run Shogun just fine.)  I'll be curious to know which faction you decide on.  :)

All this talk has motivated me to get back to my Kiev campaign, which I've admittedly neglected the past few days.  Time to see what I can do about pushing back against the Cumans...

Back ye temptrous strumpet

No.  >:D

As Gus pointed out, the music and art style alone pretty much makes it worth grabbing.  And of course, the game itself is also fun, even if it's not as complex or refined as more recent entries.

So grab it already!  You'll be glad you did.  8)

Huh; I don't know that I've ever encountered that particular problem.  However, given that I do vaguely recall a few of the older/former CA employees mentioning there were numerous little "quirks" in the code from the first two games, I can believe that it's happened on occasion.

Bobarossa I clearly do remember armies being deployed on ridiculously steep mountainsides. I don't remember what I did to get past that.

I can't remember what I had for breakfast but I can remember that :/

Glad to know I wasn't nuts!  I also remember how much I loved the battles.  Only reason I remember what I ate for breakfast is that I eat granola almost every morning.

Well now you guys have me paranoid about fighting battles on mountain/hill maps, darn it.  :silly:  But then, I only fight those manually when I feel I have to.

To be honest I am not sure how often I will play out the battles at all. Martok you mentioned the battles still look pretty good considering they are almost 25 years old now...but I guess I have to see it for myself.

When I played the original Shogun over the summer I played a few battles and although primitive, they looked...ok.

The campaign map still looked great though and I am expecting more of the same here in Medieval.

Fair enough.  When it comes to graphics in older games, it's nearly always going to be a case of YMMV, and MTW is certainly no exception.

For my part, I find the combat in the original Shogun and Medieval satisfying enough to far outweigh any "ugliness".  I get that's not going to be the case for everyone, though.  :)

Is the auto resolver up to scratch in MTW?
